दांपत्य जीवन का आधार दो आत्माओं का परस्पर आकर्षण और साहचर्य है; यह बात जानते, कहते तो सब हैं, पर अंतःकरण तक यह तथ्य बैठता कम ही लोगों में है। सुख और शांति की कामना तो प्रत्येक को होती है, परन्तु इस कामना को साकार रूप कैसे दिया जाए ? इसका विचार तथा स्मरण करने और तदनुसार आचरण करने के साथ पर जब ध्यान इस ओर अटकने लगता है कि जीवनसाथी से हमने अभीप्सित सुख-शांति प्राप्त नहीं हो रही है; इसका संपूर्ण दोष इसी पर है, मुझ पर ऐसा क्रम शुरू हो जाता है, जो समाप्त होता ही नहीं दीखता।
